Oppositions of Science

2011 November 10

Paul concludes this letter to Timothy with the following admonition: "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen." - 1 Timothy 6:20-21 The word "science" is translated from a word that literally means knowledge. Paul is telling Timothy to avoid any knowledge that is in opposition to God's revealed truth. Most Christians are very savvy to this, especially when it comes to the most basic fundamentals of Christianity such as the deity of Christ, the virgin birth, and the resurrection. Yet, when it comes to science, many Christians throw their Bibles away and bow down to the test tube and the microscope. To put it succinctly, they place the scientist above God's holy word.

Who Is Antichrist?

2011 October 12

There are few subjects that Christians have been more deceived about than the subject of antichrist. People are always talking about him: when he is coming, where he will sit, what nations he will empower, and who he will be? The sad reality about this is that antichrist is already in their back yard and they do not even know it! Satan is a deceiver, and I am sure he is sitting back, laughing at people who are watching and waiting for a straw man to make his advent into the world, that does not now, nor will ever exist. While they are watching, "antichrist" is working, alive and well… in their own back yard.

Sins of omission!

2011 September 07

"Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." -- James 4:17 James has done the spiritual minded a favor. He has warned us about something that we may have neglected. He has warned us about our sins of omission. So, what are sins of omission anyway?

The Light of the Gospel

2011 August 14

According to Paul, the purpose of the scriptures is to give light, not life. This is true whether they are read, or preached. Jesus taught the same thing when He said, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."(John 5:39). Helen Keller had spiritual life before the Bishop shared the gospel message with her. What she received was light upon the life she already possessed … light to learn that her redeemer's name was Jesus.

The grand trial of the universe

2011 August 07

Though many Christians do not realize it, there was a grand trial many years ago and their eternal destiny hung in the balance. You see, salvation is not a decision. It is not obtained by doing good works. Salvation is by grace, obtained by our righteous Advocate, the Lord Jesus Christ. He stood before the righteous Judge of the universe and represented His people, the elect. He is an overall sketch of how it went.

Accept Jesus?

2011 July 17

We have heard it said, "If you will accept Jesus as your personal savior you will be saved." By this action, it is said, a person will suddenly be ‘born again’, obtain eternal life, and go to heaven. Though this offer sounds very pious, and God-honoring, it actually stands in stark contrast to what the Bible teaches concerning how sinners are saved-by the finished works of Jesus Christ. There is a certain nuance to this expression that almost forbids criticism. After all, who would argue against anyone accepting Jesus? If one did, they might be labeled as a cynic that stood in the way of truth, and the salvation of sinners. After all, doesn’t everyone want people to accept Jesus?

When Jesus Came

2011 July 12

He referred to the religious leaders of the day as a generation of vipers, poisonous in their doctrine, and dangerous-Matthew 3:7 The religious leaders of the day had changed God’s word to suit their own desires-Matthew 15:9 The religious leaders of the day were using God’s religion to make money for themselves-John 2:16

In the Latter Times

2011 July 07

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth."- 1st Timothy 4:1-3 In our messages from 1st Timothy we considered the apostle’s words to Timothy concerning the "latter times". I must admit, that I had a preconceived notion as to what these words meant. But in my study I realized that Paul’s warning went much deeper into the school of theological thought than I had first realized.

Pride the silent killer

2011 June 28

The book of Proverbs has been described by William Arnot as "Law's from heaven for life on earth." From Solomon's pen we may all learn from a man vested with wisdom from above. Much is said of pride in his catalogue of pithy sayings that will enable us to discover this silent killer in our own spiritual checkup.

Dear College Student:

2011 June 24

Dear College Student, I am writing to you today to encourage you to consider the words that Paul wrote to Timothy: Avoid "profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called."(1st Timothy 6:20). He is telling this young man in the ministry to avoid that part of science that is in error, that part that opposes God's Holy word. These are false accusations of science to destroy your faith.

"Innocent Blood"

2011 June 21

God is a God of love. All love emanates forth from His divine presence. Yet, there are many things that God hates. Seven of those things are given to us by Solomon to adjust our thinking to be like our Holy Father's. Today, we focus our attention upon just one of these principles: the shedding of "innocent blood". Innocent blood is blood that flows through the veins of people who have done no sin; they have committed no crimes; they have slandered no one; they have not dishonored their Creator. Innocent blood is blood that flows through the veins of people who can not speak for themselves; they have no voice; they have no choice; no vote; no platform; no defense. If you will look the world over you will find no blood more innocent that the blood of the unborn child.

Love Fulfills The Law

2011 June 17

While preaching through the book of 1st Timothy, we came to this dynamic statement of the apostle Paul to Timothy: "Now the end of the commandment is charity...". Charity is the highest form of love and Paul's statement means that charity is the most important thing in our personal lives, as well as the Christian Church. It also means that genuine charity will fulfill every commandment and that is why it is so important. This is a magnificent statement. But what does it mean and how does it apply to our lives?

Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace

2011 June 07

As we look around us we find the world in great turmoil. Earthquakes, tsunamis, flooding, disease, fighting, wars, uprisings, and strife fill the news-rooms. Nations are at war with nations, drugs are rampant, sexual promiscuity has become accepted, and in our own country there are great divisions. Not only in politics, but even the core principals that our country was founded upon are being challenged on every hand. I guess we could call it global chaos! Some have asked me if I think the world is coming to an end. All I can answer is that I do not know, but I do know who is in control.

The Devil & The Turkey Hunter

Through The Faith of 'OTHERS'

2011 May 29

Jesus healed His people in many ways. Sometimes He would just speak some words, and the person would be healed. At other times, He would touch the sinner, and the problem would immediately depart from the helpless victim. We find lepers, begging for an audience with Christ; and a woman, pressing through a crowd with a hope in her heart that she might just touch Him. Here we find a great lesson for us all. A helpless sinner is healed, not by his own seeking, but through the faith of his friends. Perhaps we can learn a lesson from this notable miracle, and help one of our loved ones who has fallen prey to Satan.

The Faithfulness Of God

2011 February 24

"This I recall to mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."-Lamentations 3:21-23 From the pen of the weeping prophet we gain some insight into our own depressed estate when we begin to add up all the negative things surrounding us. Jeremiah is pouring out his complaints before God, reminding Him of the great trial that he, and his people, were going through (please read verse 1 to verse 20). In short, he is having a pity party, feeling sorry for himself.

Predestination and the Bible

2011 February 20

Predestination is a subject that receives a lot of criticism from people who should know better. They are supposedly Christians, and say they believe the Bible, but there are certain parts of it they condemn like the plague. I am thankful the medical profession does not slander their findings as roughly as some Christians slander their book. Predestination is a biblical term, used in scripture to describe the Holy work of a sovereign God. Surely, it should be believed, respected, and embraced by every person who claims to love God, and His Holy Word.

Election and the Bible

2011 February 16

C.H. Spurgeon, the great preacher in the 1800's said, "There is a natural hatred in the human heart against the doctrine of election." As much as it is taught in the Bible we wonder why more Christians do not embrace it … and believe it. Perhaps the reason is because it dethrones man, and his free will, and places Christ, and His will, as the only hope for sinners. The doctrine of election is taught in many ways in the Bible. For instance, it was God that elected Abraham to be the father of a great nation.
